For people with disability, the NDIS is an exciting new government development that will support families and carers in having access to the right equipment and support. For our customers, we believe this new scheme will provide new opportunities and peace of mind to the disabled community.

While the NDIS is expected to be rolled out across the entire state across the next three years, with the rollout completion date expected to be July 2019, there are important things to know before the NDIS reaches the Gippsland region in July 2017.

  1. The NDIS is being rolled out for participants according to their area of residents, we are expecting residents in Inner Gippsland to receive support from July 1 2017 and residents from Outer Gippsland to receive their funding from July 1 2018.
  2. If you are already using access services and are currently receiving support for the Victorian or Commonwealth government, to be registered as a participant in the NDIS, you will be contacted by the NDIA to discuss your eligibility and potential options.
  3. There are age and residency requirements to be eligible for the NDIS, such as the requisite for residency in particular areas (only during the gradual rollout of the scheme), permanent and lifestyle-limiting disability, and being below the age of 65.

As a registered provider Access Rehab will be working hand-in-hand with NDIS participants, carers, families and therapists as the NDIS is rolled out in the area to ensure that the equipment and mobility aids chosen meet the needs and goals of each participant, not only for now, but into the future.

The NDIS provides a fantastic opportunity for eligible participants to significantly improve their lifestyle and achieve things that were not previously possible. We are excited to see what we can achieve in partnership with participants and their carers, families and therapists moving forward.

As part of our commitment to support recipients of the NDIS, Access Rehab has developed a dedicated in-house assessment room where clients have access to a wide range of products in a comfortable and private setting. Access Rehab is also available to provide at-home trials where clients are able to test equipment in their home and community environment.

To learn more about the NDIS, we recommend that you visit the NDIS website or ask one of our staff members in the showroom how the NDIS can help increase your or your loved one’s access to essential aids and equipment in the coming years.
