Chelsea is a 17 year old who lives with her mum, dad, and her older sister in Warragul Victoria. Just like any ordinary girl she loves a good healthy breakfast to start her day as she needs energy to get her through her busy day!
Chelsea's parents assist with her daily activities. Her dad lifts her into her wheelchair to go down to the kitchen for meals where she is then transferred into her high chair. After breakfast she is then transferred back into her wheelchair to get ready for school and other activities.
Before receiving her new chair, it was difficult to push her manual wheelchair up an incline. Chelsea needed a powerchair to provide her with as much independence as possible. Another priority was for her to be safe, comfortable with optimum mobility so that she can participate in a wide range of activities.
Together with her Occupational Therapist and Access Rehab, Chelsea and her family held several trials of power chairs to determine which chair would best suit her lifestyle and seating & support requirements. Chelsea now has a powerchair which is the perfect chair for her.
Through her NDIS plan, Chelsea was able to get her Quickie 500M, a power wheelchair with vertical lift. Not long after taking delivery, she took her chair for a test run and her excited mother reported: “She smiled as soon as she realised she was getting taller (vertical lift). She was able to reach the apples on the tree and her peppers in the greenhouse and give the horses eye contact. It worked great over bumps and uneven terrain too. Thoroughly recommend it!!” – Doreen said.
