Mark is a young man who works in the middle of Melbourne city and is a full-time power chair user. He used his NDIS funding to purchase a new chair. He loves his new chair as it enables him to go everywhere and do everything he wants to do. He doesn't see it as a piece of equipment but an extension of his body.
Mark describes his chair as having incredible value when comparing it to the cost of taking care of someone who otherwise couldn't move and really couldn't do anything for themselves. If you have a power wheelchair, you can do more things for yourself, and you don't need someone to be paid to be with you all the time to do those things.
Mark sees the beauty of the NDIS as a guarantee to his parents that he will have his care, equipment needs and all his future wheelchairs funded, even when they're not around.
What's most important to Mark is getting around in the city, having a meeting, catching the tram, and squeezing through tight spaces in cafes and offices and just being able to get everywhere that everyone else can go.
